Court process information for whānau

ADAS do not operate out of any Court other than the Christchurch Court. Should your loved one be appearing in another Court, we suggest that you contact their lawyer in the first instance. We are unsure of the process for obtaining an AOD assessment / report in other areas.

If your loved one is in custody, has their court matters going through the Christchurch Court and an Alcohol and Drug assessment / report is required, their lawyer needs to request this in Court. If the Presiding Judge approves this request, a referral will be made by the Probation Officer sitting in the Court.

If your loved one’s ethnicity is New Zealand Māori, Pacific, or Fijian, the referral will go to He Waka Tapu (0800 439 252).

If their ethnicity is New Zealand European, or other, the referral will come to ADAS (Alcohol & other Drug Assessment & Treatment Service). We require a minimum of 20 working days between when we receive the referral and their appearance date.

All residential rehabilitation programmes (rehabs) require a referral (incl. an AOD assessment) and case management from an AOD Service. Self-referrals are not accepted.
